Symposium The Future of Platforms

On May 27, our symposium with the theme 'the Future of Platforms' took place.

The symposium was kicked off by Maria Genova. Maria is known for her book 'A woman comes to the hacker'. She is also a journalist and author in the field of cybercrime. For example, Maria has immersed herself in topics such as privacy, identity fraud and computer security. She discovered her writing by accident after graduating from the Academy of Journalism in Tilburg. With her knowledge she can shine a light on online platforms from a journalistic point of view. During the symposium, Maria told us more about online safety through a quiz.

In addition, Remy Chavannes and Kevin van 't Klooster have offered us new insights. Remy is a partner at Brinkhof and an expert in the field of media, telecommunications, copyright and information law, with a special focus on internet affairs. From his daily practice he assists major online platforms such as Google and Facebook, making him the ideal person with his expertise to tell more about platforms from a legal perspective.

Kevin has gained a lot of relevant experience related to online platforms during his career. After his master's degree in Information Law, he started as a lawyer at Baker & McKenzie and later at Osborne Clarke. From his work at Osborne Clarke he has been secondment to several major platforms such as Facebook, Uber and Snapchat. He is currently working at one of these platforms, which is Snapchat. Here he fulfills the position of Associate General Counsel Privacy.

Both gentlemen told us more about the legislation and practical examples regarding platforms in an interactive way. It was a very successful and interesting day!
